Manager of Programming - Central
Region (temporary)
Reporting to the Director of Programming in Winnipeg, we have
a temporary (approximately one-year) opportunity for an
experienced individual who will manage the commissioning of original
programming for APTN from independent producers in the Central
Region (Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Northwest Territories).
Key Duties & Responsibilities
* Determine what programming is required based on APTN Programming
Plan;
* Manage all development and independently produced programs
from the Central Region according to the strategic programming
plan;
* Ensure that programming expenditures remain within budget limits
and ensure expenditures are reported promptly and accurately
to the Finance department;
* Participate in the development of the current and upcoming
strategic program direction; manage the preparation of project
plans and budget; assist in the development of policies, procedures
and forms to facilitate to the management of programming;
* Develop and maintain professional, productive, respectful relationships
with distributors; producers and consultants in order to meet
programming goals;
* Represent the Programming Department at Production Industry
Festivals, seminars and other opportunities for outreach to writers,
producers, funding agencies and viewers;
* Review proposals from suppliers with the Program Officers;
* Ensure programs are in accordance with the CRTC broadcast license,
conditions and expectations related to program content and Canadian
content requirements;
* Make content and financial decisions, negotiate the principle
terms of the deal and make the offer;
* Read scripts, visit production sets and post-production facilities;
* Supervise the Programming Coordinator and Senior Programming
Officer - Legal including: interviewing, hiring and training;
plan, assign and direct work, appraise performance.
Requirements:
* A university degree in film studies, languages, history, business
or equivalent is highly desirable; a minimum of 3-5 years previous
experience in various facets of programming including acquisitions
and program development; or an equivalent combination.
* Sound planning, forecasting, and leadership; ability to work
independently and be proactive.
* Broadcasting knowledge and experience working for or with Aboriginal
organizations
* Ability to speak French and/or an Aboriginal language an asset.
Remuneration: DOQ/DOE.
