DUTIES
The Child and Youth Care programs offer two diplomas and a Bachelor of Child and Youth Care. One diploma focuses on First Nations child and youth care (Duncan campus). Specific courses may include all courses in the CYC-FN diploma, CYC 321, 322, 466, and 476. We are seeking an energetic, practice-based individual to join the team. Duties include assuming responsibilities as a regular member of the Child and Youth Care faculty (attendance at faculty meetings and participation in committee work within the program, the Faculty of Health and Human Services, and the institution); developing, preparing, and delivering classes; designing and grading student assignments/tests and facilitating student integration of theory into practice through classroom, lab and field placement instruction as part of a larger faculty that is committed to an evolving learning communities model (in both the Child and Youth Care Diplomas and Degree programs). Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning, and student success through scholarship and institutional service. The successful candidate will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support and advising; program administration/coordination; institutional, faculty and department committee meetings; other program initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their discipline(s) in and outside the institution.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:
Master's Degree in Child and Youth Care or related field from an appropriately accredited institution. Recent practical experience working with children, youth, and/or their families including extensive direct practice work with Aboriginal children, youth, families and communities. Experience facilitating/teaching with groups of adult learners in the following content areas: Child and Youth Care core curriculum, practice with Aboriginal families and communities, and advanced family support and education. Understanding and respect for Child and Youth Care orientation to practice. Proven abilities to work effectively with a dynamic team and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Computer competence. Must possess a valid driver's license and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record (as specified in Malaspina University-College policy and procedures).

Preferred:
PhD in Child and Youth Care or related field from an appropriately accredited institution. A demonstrated Child and Youth Care orientation to practice. Proven administrative and team leadership skills. Expertise in instruction using learning community model(s); and proven research skills. Individuals of First Nations ancestry are particularly encouraged to apply.
