Negotiations Analyst Are you interested in contributing to the advancement of the
Province's relationship with Aboriginal peoples in Ontario and
the resolution of outstanding land claims? Then, join the negotiations
branch of the Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs' land claims
and negotiations division. This is an exciting opportunity to
enhance Ontario's land claim process, advance current land claims
in progress, and lead time-sensitive corporate work as part of
a new and growing ministry. You will be part of a team that:
delivers strategic advice; supports and conducts negotiations;
develops claims policy options; leads process reform; designs
and implements public and stakeholder engagement initiatives;
works horizontally with line ministry partners and other jurisdictions
- federal, provincial, municipal and First Nation. Your duties
will include: research claims assessment and ongoing negotiations;
operational/strategic planning support to the branch by providing
reports and briefing notes; policy and administrative support
for special projects; responding to requests from Aboriginal
clients, the federal government, line ministries and the public
on research issues. Qualifications: knowledge of current legal, social and economic issues in Aboriginal affairs in Ontario and the history of Aboriginal Peoples in Canada; analytical and evaluative skills to assess historic, legal, political, social, economic, cultural and administrative merits of land claims; ability to interpret agreements and provide logistical support to implement the terms and conditions of agreements; superior communication skills, including the ability to communicate to diverse audiences and prepare briefing notes and reports; experience or related academic training in land and resource-related consultation and/or negotiation processes with Aboriginal people; valid driver's licence.
