Probation Officer

(Level 9 - SGEU)

The Ministry of Corrections, Public Safety and Policing is looking for a highly motivated individual to provide services to offenders in the La Ronge/Athabasca/Creighton Region. Headquartered at Creighton, typical duties will include the preparation of court reports, case planning to reduce risk of offending, supervision of high-risk male and female offenders, and offenders convicted of domestic violence. You will provide supervision to offenders incorporating relapse prevention, the use of specialized risk assessment tools and knowledge of specific strategies for working with offenders. You will be required to respond to victims of criminal offences, collaborate with community agencies, victim resources, police and other government personnel to provide an integrated approach to offender management and supervision in the community, and develop and maintain community resources. You will also work flexible hours, in potentially high risk situations under high workload demand.

The ability to drive on northern gravel roads, travel in small aircraft and stay overnight away from headquarters is a requirement.

The knowledge and abilities required for this position would typically be acquired through an applied professional degree in human service field combined with related community experience.

The successful candidates will be required to attend training on the Saskatchewan Primary Risk Assessment for offenders and achieve certification.
