Aboriginal Relations Advisor - (2009-3472)

Job Summary
Working with the Director, Community Relations, this position has responsibility for development and positioning of TransAlta's Aboriginal Relations program to support the business strategy and TransAlta's corporate reputation. The Aboriginal Relations Advisor interacts with a wide range of external clients, as well as internally with all levels of the organization, helping to identify issues and trends.

Responsibilities
* Facilitating First Nation community consultation and engagement
* Implementing and promoting TransAlta's scholarship program,
* Representing TransAlta at First Nation community activities, helping to direct targeted community investments in First Nation communities, promoting TransAlta's "First Nations" reputation to internal and external audiences
* Contributing to and promoting TransAlta's aboriginal relations program through planning, aboriginal awareness training and periodic communication about TransAlta's aboriginal relations activities and accomplishments.
* Interaction with First Nations on operational issues including land access, environmental reporting, and permitting
* Ensuring the continued effective and efficient operation of TransAlta's regulated transmission assets through interactions on land operation and maintenance, engagement and capacity building, interface with third party contractors benchmarking TransAlta's maintenance practices on First Nations lands and making recommendations to enhance TransAlta's current practices
* Developing and maintaining a consultation database of First Nations.
