July 17-20 marked the last memorial run for University of Saskatchewan student Daleen Bosse, the 26-year-old who went missing from Jax Night Club in Saskatoon in 2004. A lengthy police investigation led to the discovery of Bosse’s remains in a secluded area near Martensville in August 2008. Douglas Hales, a bouncer at the downtown nightclub, was arrested and charged with first degree murder. His trial was to begin in October, but a delay regarding his legal representation has postponed the start date to April 15, 2013.  Bosse’s mother Pauline Muskego began the annual memorial walk in 2005 to raise awareness about her missing daughter. The four-day walk began in Martensville and covered a distance of approximately 325 km and ending at Onion Lake Cree Nation. "There are hundreds of missing and murdered Aboriginal women and children and men and we need to continue to raise awareness about the issue," Muskego told News Talk 980 Radio. "If your child went missing and you didn't know what had happened, you would do everything in your own power to find your child." Saskatoon Police Chief Clive Weighill, who has participated in six runs, was also involved this year. "We worked hard on that case and we've gotten to know the family very well. When you go on one of those runs and you carry the eagle staff in her memory as you're running down the highway there, it just kind of brings a little bit of emotion to you and it sticks with you," Weighill told The StarPhoenix.
