The Government of the Northwest Territories will close its Edmonton office July 31. Louise Vertes, deputy minister of the executive departments, said the closing is in keeping with the government's fiscal restraint program. She said government operations will not be adversely effected. The Edmonton office was established nearly 15 years ago to provide a counseling service to NWT students attending school in the city, to handle health-related matters and to provide various services to government departments in Yellowknife. The government is examining an Edmonton-based telephone referral system to reroute any inquiries about territorial government programs and services to the appropriate department or agency in Yellowknife.
