Dear Editor:
For someone who was not aware of the existence of Birchbark newspaper, I certainly was not prepared for its introduction! And what a pleasant one at that, to find myself on the front page of your wonderful newspaper. [November issue]
I read with interest all the articles, and found them most informative, and the paper itself, extremely professional and well put together. Kathleen Orth has really captured my special day, a day that I will carry in my heart for the rest of my life.
It is rewarding to know that universities are finally recognizing Aboriginal talents and opening their doors; as a result we are creating role models at a great rate.
One of the highlights of the day, without a doubt, was at the invitation of the university, the traditional Aboriginal student drum was invited, drum and chant performed The Warrior, written for Wounded Knee, I believe? It resonated throughout the building and the whole campus.
My tears of joy had dried up, until I saw myself and read the article in Birchbark. Thank you so much. Che Meegwetch. Merci.
In friendship,
