A new program designed to give Aboriginal students the skills needed to run a business was recently launched in Saskatoon at Oskayak High School. It marks the expansion of the Paul Martin Aboriginal Education Initiative Aboriginal Youth Entrepreneurship Program to 17 schools across Saskatchewan. Officials hope to eventually have the program run in all 28 provincial school divisions. According to the Saskatchewan School Board Association, the program has been successfully completed by dozens of students. Saskatchewan is the first province where the program has been adopted so broadly. The two-credit course teaches financial literacy, banking and marketing through projects and mentorship. Funding for the program is shared by the federal government and corporate sponsors Potash Corp and RBC.
