The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations and Saskatchewan government have signed a bilateral protocol committing them to “working together to achieve positive outcomes for First Nations people,” as stated in a joint news release. The bilateral protocol establishes a political steering committee co-chaired by FSIN Chief Perry Bellegarde and Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall and consisting of Cabinet members and members of the FSIN executive council. As well, a senior officials committee was formed to provide support to the political steering committee. Dialogue will be ongoing with regular meetings. “We need access in order to bring about positive change for all our communities. By working co-operatively, we reinforce the principles of peaceful co-existence and mutual respect as we create a future where First Nations peoples also benefit from the prosperous Saskatchewan economy,” said Bellegarde.
