As of July 16, the Native Women's Association of Canada has a new president. Marilyn Buffalo, a member of the Samson Cree Nation of Alberta, was elected to the position at the association's 23rd annual general assembly in Winnipeg.

As president, Buffalo is the official spokesperson for Native women in Canada. She will lobby all levels of government on issues affecting women and youth in international, federal, provincial and Aboriginal forums. The association will also prepare an action plan on issues raised in the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples report.

The tenth annual British Columbia conference on HIV/AIDS will be held in Vancouver from Oct. 26 through to 28. Over the past 20 years, the B.C. AIDS conference has addressed clinical, scientific and community HIV/AIDS issues. The conference will examine a variety of issue in living and working with HIV/AIDS, including immune restoration, AIDS/HIV and the community, nurses and HIV/AIDS, HIV counsellor training, HIV management for physicians, and cyber AIDS.

This is a love story that shouldn't have happened. I'd figured that my journey

was safe. I was doing my work and everything was mapped out. My role in society

was simply to tell my story. Well....it's not turning out that way. This Blessed Creator has given me more of a challenge. I've got a story to tell....listen on.

Consortium brings education centres together

Eight First Nation adult education centres in Alberta are banding together to build a stronger foundation for catering to their Aboriginal students.

The First Nations Adult and Higher Education Consortium is still in the early stages of development. The consortium was created in June of this year and is expected to be operational by the start of the school year this September.

Over the summer, presidents of the eight First Nations education centres have been meeting to iron out the role of the consortium.
