A 13-member Aboriginal Tourism Advisory Council was announced on June 28.

This new council, appointed by Alberta Economic Development Minister Clint Dunford, will provide ongoing advice to Dunford about ideas that will expand the Aboriginal tourism industry in Alberta.

Dunford said council member appointments came after a long selection process that took geographic representation into account. Dunford is confident each of the Alberta regions has been covered.

Hard work and dedication have earned three Aboriginal students-Ariane Starblanket Skawenniio Barnes, and Kelvin Redvers-millennium excellence awards from the Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation.

"I was very overwhelmed when I first found out about this award," said Starblanket. I was really excited and it was kind of a relief because all of my hard work throughout my high school years has been looked at and I was being honored for it."

What started as a fitness and recreation program could end in an Olympic medal, that's if Barb Larocque, coach of the 4 Nations Track and Field Club, has her way.

"You have to think big," said Larocque.

The club is for people six years of age to adult.

It has almost 30 regular participants, and they train for events such as sprints, long-distance running, running long jump-standing long jump for the younger ones-high jump, discus, javelin, shot put and steeplechase. About the only events they don't train for is hurdles and pole vault.
