Eleven Saddle Lake students will be leaving for Albuquerque, New Mexico Easter Sunday to participate in the Gathering of Nations, the world's largest powwow.
All of them -- students from Grades 7 through 12 -- have been chosen as recipients of the Saddle Lake Onchaminahos School incentive program, which rewards hard work and dedication within the school.
The students were graded on leadership, citizenship, attendance, attitude and academic performance. They were selected by teachers and have been sponsored for the eight-day journey south.
"It's an educational experience," said school vice-principal Gloria McGilvary. "They will gain insight into the different tribes they meet, see historic sites and act as ambassadors for Saddle Lake."
High school student Stephanie Arcand will also be competing in the four-day long Miss Indian World Pageant.
The group is expected back April 23.
