Aboriginal youth that commit minor crimes in the Nishnawbe Aski Nation Treaty area now have a better option than facing criminal charges and jail.
On Nov. 16 a youth pre-charge diversion protocol was signed between the Nishnawbe Aski Legal Services Corporation (NALSC) and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

The Metis Nation of Ontario (MNO) is heading back into the courts again with the government of Ontario's Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) over Metis hunting and fishing rights.
A number of MNO harvesters have been charged with hunting infractions dating back to the time before the MNO and the province signed an interim agreement on harvesting in July 2004.

Louise Papaianni is proud of her Cree heritage and as such, is very pleased to be part of an project at the University of Alberta.
Though she grew up in Edmonton, Papaianni feels a deep responsibility to honor her Aboriginal mother's culture, and she is doing just that by helping research a Cree language project at the University of Alberta School of Native Studies.

Only one Albertan earned a championship at the International Indian Finals Rodeo (IIFR) held in North Battleford Oct. 13 to 16.
Vanessa Chalifoux won all four days of junior barrel racing competition and posted a junior girls barrel racing low time of 13.53 seconds.
Some of the best rodeo competitors from across North America competed in 11 different rodeo events. The top two competitors from six different associations took part.

In conjunction with the company's 25th anniversary celebrations, Peach Hills Trust paid tribute to the talents of the 23rd annual Native art contest winners during a ceremony at the Shaw Conference Centre on Oct. 27.
The contest was established in 1982 to promote the work of Native artists throughout Canada.
