The leaders of the three provincial First Nations political organizations in British Columbia signed on the dotted line on March 18 and now, for the first time in recent memory, they're all working together to take on the provincial and federal governments on issues of concern.

The Union of British Columbia Indian Chiefs (UBCIC), the First Nations Summit and the British Columbia branch of the Assembly of First Nations signed an accord in Richmond after two days of meetings.

This year's Lawrence Weenie Cup belonged to Lou Gardiner and the NorthWest Traders.

The team was undefeated throughout regular play at the three-day tournament for players 35-plus, held March 25 to 27 at the Moosomin Multi-Purpose Arena, and continued its winnings ways right through the finals to clinch this year's championship.

The team was lead by Lou Gardiner, who was named tournament MVP for his part in the victory-the third time he's earned that honour in the last five years.

With more than half of Saskatchewan's land mass covered in forest, the men and women whose job it is to fight forest fires in the province have a huge responsibility.

In the past when forest fires broke out in Northern Saskatchewan, it was members of the areas First Nation and Metis communities that took on the challenge of fighting the blazes. That is still the case today, with Aboriginal people making up the majority of the province's forest fire suppression crews.
